Our mission at Aveda is to care for the world we live in, from the products we make to the ways in which we give back to society. At Aveda, we strive to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility, not just in the world of beauty, but around the world.
As the first company to sign the Ceres Principles in 1989, we have long supported helping tackle some of the world’s biggest sustainability challenges, including climate change, water scarcity and pollution, and inequitable workplaces.
We partner with over 100 nonprofit and NGOs around the world.
These collaborations fall into three categories.
1
Clean water.
703 million people globally lack basic access to clean and safe drinking water*. We have a formal annual commitment to donate to nonprofit environmental organisations working to provide and protect clean water through our annual Earth Month campaign. Â
Since 1999, we have raised over $71M for these partner groups, providing clean water for over 1.5 million people in need and protecting thousands of watersheds in communities around the world. Â
Today, we collaborate with charity: water, an organisation that has completed over 150K projects since 2006 and brought clean water to over 18M people in need in 29 countries around the world**. Â
Since our partnership began in 2018, we have raised over $5.7M: Enough to impact over 131K people in India, Nepal, Madagascar, and Ethiopia. Each year, that number continues to grow.
Every cent raised and donated to charity: water during our campaign goes directly to clean water projects. Â
Clean water changes everything: The lives of individuals, their communities and, in turn, the world. Â
TIME Access to clean water means people don’t have to travel far distances in search of it.
EDUCATION Children aren’t missing school because of water-based illness and have more time to study.
HEALTH Communities are stronger and healthier when they have safe drinking water.
PROSPERITY Women have more agency to earn an income and support their families.

Community story.
Clean water gives people time back in their lives. For Maya Devi, that time means precious time for family. For her daughter Sarmila, it means time for education. And overall, it means time for each other. Hear from both of them how clean water changes everything.
Community, human rights, preserving and enhancing biodiversity, and helping mitigate climate change. Our mission partnerships address some of the biggest issues facing our planet today, on top of a commitment to ensuring safe and protected water on a local level.
The Yawanawá.
A 32 year ecosystem protection partnership with the Yawanawá people of northern Brazil.
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® (BCRF) for cruelty-free research.
BCRF is a nonprofit organisation founded in 1992 by Evelyn H. Lauder and is the only national organisation strictly dedicated to funding clinical and genetic research on breast cancer at medical institutions across the country, including Columbia University.
Every October, a portion of the purchase price from each sale of our hand reliefâ„¢ moisturising creme is donated to BCRF. Since 2001, we have raised $7 million to help fund BCRF cruelty-free breast cancer research that explores potential environmental causes and links to breast cancer.
