URUKU
New Uruku make-up. 100% plant & mineral colour
Since 1993 Aveda has helped the Yawanawa, indigenous people from western Brazil, organically grow and harvest a red seed pigment from the urukum tree. This pigment is used by the Yawanawa to protect and adorn. Our ongoing partnership with the Yawanawa People assists in fostering economic independence.
OUT OF THE RAINFOREST
Urukum - a red seed pigment organically grown and harvested by the Yawanawan tribe in the Brazilian Amazon Rainforest. The Yawanawa use the pigment to protect and adron, painting patterns unique to a person's spirit.

PARTNERS IN BEAUTY
Aveda's partnership with the Yawanawa tribe has empowered them to economic independence. We have also helped them recover land rights in 2007, so hundreds of thousands hectares of rainforest are now safe from logging and ranchers.

THE SCARY TRUTH
Indigenous lands occupy 1/5 Brazilian Rainforest. They are unprotected and can be taken over by the government for logging, mining and ranching. Indigenous people have no title on their land. They are displaced, losing their traditional culture and knowledge or stay and have their natural resources.
