AVEDA's luxurious products and treatments are available at more than 7000 salons and spas worldwide. Without harming a hair on a bunny's head, Minneapolis-based Aveda has won the Best Cruelty-Free Products category in PETA's sixth Annual Proggy Awards. Aveda will receive a framed certificate and will be featured on PETA's award-winning Web site PETA.org. PETA's Proggy Awards ("Proggy" is for "progress") recognize animal-friendly achievements in commerce and culture.
Unlike companies that still poison and kill animals to test their products Aveda uses modern technology, known safe ingredients, and human tests. Winner of a 2005 Proggy for its animal-friendly shampoos, conditioners, and cleansers, Aveda is now taking top honours for its facials, body scrubs, wraps, polishes, and other spa treatments. Combining "high-tech plant technology with a high-touch service," Aveda's products are widely available Aveda's own locations, at independently owned contract salons and spas and online.
This year, Proggy awards have gone to producers and marketers of vegan foods, shoes, and cruelty-free personal-care products; an animal-friendly production studio; and a member of Congress.
