Dominique Conseil "World-renowned stylist Horst Rechelbacher founded Aveda in 1978 with the vision of bringing to salon and spa professionals products that would be safe for them, for their guests and for the planet. The products are made as naturally as possible while providing professionals with the high performance they require. Aveda products are also crafted around a proprietary know-how, Aromaology and the art and science of pure flower and plant essences."

Green-e is the nation?s leading renewable energy certification program. Since 1997, the Green-e logo has helped consumers identify environmentally superior renewable offerings throughout North America. The Green-e Program certifies that the renewable energy we purchase meets the strict environmental and consumer protection standards established by the non-profit Center for Resource Solutions.

**In July 2006 we agreed to purchase 1402 blocks of energy from Xcel Energy for our headquarters in Blaine, Minnesota. In December of the same year, we expanded our commitment by purchasing 804 more blocks of energy for our distribution center. Beginning in May 2007 we further committed to purchase 100% Windsource? for a minimum of three years?for our headquarters and distribution center.

We advance existing research and development practices in our industry—through our use of renewable, sustainable, or organic, plant-based ingredients and non-petroleum mineral ingredients in our products, as detailed in our Ingredient Policy.

Our funding of new wind turbines generates enough wind energy to offset 100% of the electricity used by our primary manufacturing facility in Minnesota, USA.

By committing to alternative energy sources like Windsource™ we can all have an impact on the energy we consume and help lower our carbon footprint. Wind energy is produced without air emissions like carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide, uses no water and requires no water treatment during production.
Aveda purchases Windsource™ from Excel Energy** in blocks of wind-generated electricity equal to the amount used in the normal course of doing business. Every purchase of just one (100 kWh) block for one year has environmental benefits equal to offsetting 2,449 lbs. of carbon dioxide, 2,400 miles off driving, and planting 1/3 acre of trees.

Purchasing Windsource™ increases the amount of wind energy available to the entire power grid from which we draw our electricity. Generated and purchased from nineteen wind farms in Minnesota, Windsource™ also helps create jobs installing and maintaining wind turbines in Minnesota. And helps generate tax revenue for counties and farmers who lease their land for wind turbines, while still farming.

Every year the month of April is dedicated to raising money and supporting a cause that we believe in.

In April 2007 Aveda UK and its partners raised more than £74,000 for Global Greengrants Fund's clean water projects
for children and
communities around the world.

We did this from beach & canal cleanings, fashion shows, make-overs, school competitions, mountain climbs, walks, marathons and even head shaving!
